“Grunt” (dog) Approx. April 69. Given to a crewmember by a “grunt” during a jungle combat assault. The ground-pounder found him in the jungle. “Grunt” lived very short time; Died of what we believed was distemper.

AC was 1st Lt. Richard W. Thompson, Pilot was W-1 Andre` Thomas (in second picture). Due to other aircraft running-up. Thompson had to stretch out the forced landing from a high hover to avoid settling into other aircraft.
