4/101 Avn "Wings of the Eagle" Memorial

The "Wings of the Eagle" Memorial honors the six crewmen from 4th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment killed on November 15, 2003. The soldiers were killed when two 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters crashed in Mosul, Iraq while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The memorial serves as a fitting tribute to them and those ‘Wings of the Eagle’ and ‘Screaming Eagle’ soldiers, past and present, who paid the ultimate price in the defense of our nation’s freedom. The memorial is located just outside 4-101st Battalion Headquarters, Bldg 7106, Blackhawk Drive, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The “Wings of the Eagle” Memorial design is a granite monument and granite benches, surrounded by a low fence and six red maple trees representing each of the soldiers in the positions they occupied in their aircraft.
